Templates:
- Please request a template before you submit your artwork - the templates found on our website are for in-house orders only. We use more than one plant and often measurements can change from plant to plant. Let us know what type of packaging you are looking to create and we will provide you with the template you are looking for!
- When sending electronic files do not embed die lines (guidelines) to your image.
- If you do Include die lines and template in your artfile, place them on a separate layer that can be easily removed.
File Transmission:
- Make sure files are compressed into ZIP (PC) or Stuffit (Mac), it will protect files from being corrupted during the transfer process and shorten transfer time. Files can be sent by FTP, supplied on disc or via email to Shandy Kern - shandy@silverbirchprod.com (if sent via email, file size must be under 20MG).
- For FTP submission info, visit http://silverbirchprod.com/ftp.php
Resolution:
- Standard image resolution for printing is 300 dpi. (Internet/web images are usually at 72 dpi, and while they may look good on the screen, they'll look fuzzy when printed.)
Fonts and Linked Files:
- Fonts whether supplied as TrueType, PostScript or OpenType must be included and/or text converted to outlines.
- All support (link) files must be included with the files you submit.
Colour Information:
- Verify the number of colours in the job. Specify if the colours are CMYK or Pantone. List the Pantone colours required, if applicable.
- All images must be converted to CMYK from RGB or LAB to separate and print correctly.
Colour Processing:
-Process: This is also called "Full Colour" or "CMYK". This type of printing process uses four standard inks: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black (CMYK) to produce a wide range of colours.
-Spot (Pantone Matching System): This type of printing is used when specific colours must be reproduced exactly or if a job requires only one or two colours to start with. You choose the colours you want to print with, those are mixed individually. Special colours can be mixed upon request. Make sure you pick spot colours from the PANTONE Colour Guide - Solid Coated. Choosing colours from your monitor is risky due to the differences in calibration from screen to screen.
- "Process Printing" (CMYK) is far and away the most common way to print for paper and cardboard products (On rare occasion, a client will request "Spot" colours for paper/cardboard printing - a corporate logo is an example of such an occasion - If this is something you require, contact us to advise). "Spot Printing" is far more common in CD Face silkscreening, but "Process/CMYK" is still the most frequent. Contact us to advise.
CDFaces and White Floods vs. Custom White Floods:
- If your disc requires the use of a white base coat, you should include this as a second page or separate layer within your file. It is standard procedure to add a white base coat to every file we receive. To print part of your artwork to the silver face of the disc, you must design a custom white flood with the portion of art or text in the exact position as the main art.
Before Submission:
- Ensure that all files have been proofed for typographical/spelling errors.
