Char Taal and a Raga Rainbow loosely means “four claps and a rainbow of melodic modes�. This colourful selection of pieces includes the ragas Kaushik Dhwani, Charukeshi, Hansadhwani and Sarang and also unique covers of the songs “Gracias a la Vida� by the legendary Chilean folklorist Violeta Parra and “Uninvited� by the iconic Canadian songstress Alanis Morissette.

Rakkatak’s debut 2010 self-titled CD takes a unique and creative approach in presenting classical tabla compositions by merging them with lustrous instrumental melodies and tasteful electronic soundscapes.

The instrument played on the CD is a 6 string C.F. Martin, approximately 30 years old with a bright and warm patina. The ballads are sharp and sweet, reminiscent of tea and oranges.
